Descripción - Maria Teresa de Filippis entered the Monaco, Belgian, Italian and Portuguese grands prix races in 1958. Too slow to qualify at Monte Carlo, she placed 10th at Spa-Francorchamps. The small Italian woman began racing after her brothers bet one another about how fast their sister could drive. She entered successively more difficult races, winning her first ever event in a Fiat 500B. She moved on to world famous road race/endurance events like the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia. Born into a wealthy Naples famiy, Maria Teresa drove a privately entered Maserati 250F as a Formula 1 driver. It was the same car that Juan Manuel Fangio had used to win his fifth world championship in 1957.
